What Is HPL (High Pressure Laminate)? Laminoks Series

HPL is produced by impregnating multiple layers of kraft paper with phenolic resin and a decorative top sheet with melamine resin, then consolidating the stack under high heat (120–160°C) and high pressure (7–14 MPa). The result is a homogeneous, thermoset panel — not a coating applied to MDF, but a self-standing laminate sheet that is then bonded to the MDF core.

What Is Melamine MDF?

Melamine MDF door panels are produced by thermofusing a decorative paper — pre-impregnated with melamine resin — directly onto the MDF surface under moderate heat and pressure. This process is faster and lower-cost than HPL production, which is why melamine panels occupy the budget and mid-range market segments.

The decorative paper determines the visual appearance (wood grain, solid tone, texture) while the melamine resin provides basic scratch and stain resistance. The bonding is less aggressive than HPL, resulting in a surface that is adequate for moderate-use interior doors but underperforms in high-traffic or humid conditions.
